Winter Activities

Winter Wonderland

Activities and events that are totally unique to this area. From ice racing, ice fishing, antique snowmobiles, or skiing deep into the snowy woods. This is winter done right.

Great Lakes Ice Racing

Watch racers fly by on ice or try racing for yourself! People gather on the Escanaba River in Gladstone every Sunday during winter to take part in Ice Racing. Racers add studs to their tires for more grip on this slippery track. You can bring any ORV vehicle that you and they’ll find a place for you in a race. Learn more about the races by clicking here.

Ice Fish

Head for the ice on Lake Michigan to catch some dinner or a trophy fish. We have awesome bait shops that are here to help you with all your ice fishing needs. For more information on Ice Fishing in the area, click here.

Winter Sports

Tie your boots and buckle those snowshoes.  There are several groomed trails to get your skiing fix during these winter months. The Escanaba Civic Center also has free 24-hour snowshoe rentals, just fill out a form and hit the trails! Their hours are 7:30 am-4 pm.  The John & Melissa Besse Sports Park takes tubing to the next level with several tracks and tubes that join together so you can take the entire family down the hill. You can also downhill ski and snowboard here. For ideas of where to go for your favorite winter activity, click here.
