Walleye | Salmon | Bass | Ice Fishing

The Bays de Noc area is nestled in the northwoods, along 211 miles of varied shoreline, the most of any county in the continental U.S., with beautiful sand beaches, marshes and wetlands for bird and wildlife viewing and stunning limestone cliffs. We are proud to boast the most coast with our fresh bays, but our inland water is also spectacular featuring sparkling streams and lakes. Trophy sized fish are not the only thing lurking below the water’s surface–over 30 sunken ships have made our clear waters their resting place, just waiting to be explored. Most of our treasures are far from buried, with lush green forests, woodland trails and all kinds of wildlife to enjoy. Perhaps you’ll choose to take in the sights from soaring limestone cliffs, historic lighthouses, a ghost town and so much more.

Carefully managed and protected throughout the years, the Bays de Noc have emerged as one of the best fresh water fishing locations in the United States. The area has undergone an aggressive fish planting in the past three years. More than 20,000 have been planted to sustain the fishery. Professional fishing tournaments such as the Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit, the In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail, the FLW Walleye League Championships, the FLW Bass Series and B.A.S.S. Tournament Series, all have held professional competitions on the Bays. Multiple species can be caught from boats or from the shore of the Bays, inland lakes, or from the various rivers and streams that fill Lake Michigan. Accessing our abundant waters is as easy as pulling up to one of the boat launches scattered throughout the county. Permits are required and are available at the launch sites. Please be aware that weather conditions can change quickly on the big water. Make sure you are aware of weather conditions and have the proper safety equipment.

Boat Launches & Marinas

The Escanaba Marina has 165 boat slips, docks and moorings for seasonal and transient boaters. The natural looking harbor is actually man-made, with the island built up to protect the harbor. Lodging, shopping and restaurants are nearby. Harbor Master’s Office is open from May 13 through October 11. Call 906-786-9614 or 1-800-700-9614 for more information. Or write Harbor Master, Escanaba Municipal Marina, P.O. Box 948, Escanaba MI 49829.

The Gladstone Harbor is open from May 15 to Labor Day. Amenities include electric service, fuel, holding tank pump-out, restrooms and showers and long term parking. It’s a beautiful marina a few miles from the tip of Little Bay de Noc. The marina is part of Van Cleve Park and a short distance from downtown Gladstone. Seasonal Phone Number is 906-428-2916. The Off Season Phone Number is 906-428-2311.
