Ice Fishing Report February 17, 2021

Visit Escanaba has teamed up with local lure experts and the friendliest bait shop owners in the U.P. to bring you a weekly ice fishing report for Little Bay de Noc. Remember, you can trust the ice as much as you can trust how many fish that an angler claims to catch. That being said, this report is weekly and may not be current, so always use caution and sound judgment as the conditions on the bay can change daily if not sometimes hourly. And lastly, enjoy fishing in the Walleye Capital of the World!

Jon over at Bayshore is looking forward to this weekend as they hold their fishing Derby. The winner of the walleye category gets a brand new auger! Check out their Facebook page for more info, and check out our most recent video with Jon.

Local Fisherman Christian

Christian has been fishing for 12 years by himself and tries to get out every day, especially during ice fishing season. Christian is also the son of Jon, owner of Bayshore Bait and Tackle, so naturally, he loves this time of the year.  According to Christian, the ice is shaping up to be in great condition.

“We were actually able to get out and visit some spots we normally haven’t been able to visit in the last couple of years”.

In the last week, Christian and his buddies have managed to reel in 30 walleye and have picked-up some pike as well. His most recent catch was a 39-inch pike and a 25-inch walleye. Christian has been fishing with a #7 jigging rap mostly in white. He has also been getting quite a few fish on tip-ups with bait as well.

Christian invites you to come out and join the fishing Derby hosted by Bayshore Bait and Tackle. You will likely see him out on the ice, doing what he does best!
